Hallo all,
probably a question just for METI, but would be interested to hear from other users.
Is there an internationally recognised "driving licence" for simulation on the HPS?
I know several simulation centres offer train the trainer type courses, but which one to choose? Which do users/METI reccomend?
Speaking as someone for whom the opportunity to have letters after my name (other than RIP) may have passed me by, but having a couple of years experience helping to deliver and plan simulations, it would be nice to have something tangible to reward my efforts and experience rather than just being "the smartest guy in the room" (if I choose my rooms carefully)
Thanks
Technically yours

I have heard of a few Simulator Educator courses. The one which my collegues have taken was the Harvard Centre for Medical Simulation Instructor Training: “Simulation as a Teaching Tool” .

There is another one I have heard of out of Germany (I think Mainz). Another fellow I know has taken it with rave reviews. I'll get back to you when I find out more info.
The Canadian Forces has developed a Medical Simulator Facilitator course but it is only available to Canadian Forces personel.

I am a Technician in a Clinical Skills lab no degree and want to grow in my job. I was a Corpsman in the Navy 6 years and worked in the facility that I employed for over 21 years. My background is a psych tech/US 8years, PCU monitor tech and US 5 years, and monitor tech / US / lead US 8 years ICU. Who is in charge of HPS labs and what degree(s) in what area to advance. My position is new and I plan on attending school to obtain my goal. My current boss says I need a RN and I have been doing some reseach and found people with I.T. degrees run Skills Labs. My current goal is to obtain A.A. I currently have 24 units that can be applied plus credit from Navy Corps School of Health and Science and possible experience. Who runs your Labs and what degrees do they have? Help I need to chose a path to grow.

John,
I think your background in Healthcare is a huge bonus to your position. Its extremely helpful when the person running the computer can also respond as a patient would, or physician (lab tech, RT, etc, etc). Your background would allow you to do this.
I'm going to be at Torrance Memorial 5/29-30 and would be happy to talk with you more about this. If you're not already scheduled to attend this consulting visit, please contact Jody Antall so that a meeting can be arranged.
Look forward to meeting you!

John-
Here at Ohio State's Clinical Skills Education and Assessment Center we have two people involved in the lab. I, myself, am a Medical Technologist with a MS in Healthcare Management, and soon to start a PhD in Education. I came from a Critical Care Laboratory so I help with supply ordering, teaching, running the HPS and various other tasks. Our lab manager is a critical care paramedic who is largely involved in running the HPS and the overall laboratory. I would recommend a medical background with a familiarity in IT. Our lab manager does a fantastic job with his paramedic background. Hope this helps.

hi!
i'm a coordinator and i am in charge of our school's clinical simulations center. i call my clinical instructors csi or clinical simulations instructors. we are all nurses and have masters of arts and masters of sciences in nursing. i am what others may call a "techie" or a tech savvy person. i think this is one of the reasons why i am in charge. i am also a member of the family who owns the school. do we have a train the trainer here in the philippines? thanks!

This is not a certification but in fact a job description that can be used for a new title and include advancement.
In march of 2009 I was involved with a California State Wide job Analysis meeting (DACUM). We explored job descriptions for simulation as well as a title. The title we came up with was Simulation Program Coordinator. A prior meeting was for the technician which coined the title Simulation Technology Specialist Here is a link to these sites so you can view http://www.healthoccupations.org/files/dacums/Simulation_Program_Coordinator.doc
http://www.healthoccupations.org/files/dacums/Simulation%20Technology%20Specialist-FINAL.doc
I hope you can use this information as a means of advancement. (Good Luck!)
