Is anyone using or modified scenarios from the PNCI for specific use within a respiratory therapy program?

Thanks in advance!

This is a good question and I would like to hear some thoughts on it as well. We have a RC department and I would like to find out how to incorporate them into our simulation lab using the PNCI and our ECS. Has anyone had any experience (or suggestions) in this area?

Some facilities have used the PNCI to teach vent management, oxygen therapy, and intubation to their respiratory therapists as well as to teach medical emergencies and code blue--they used several SCE's to do this. You could use some semester II SCEs for oxygenation and oxygen therapy, and the cardiopulmonary arrest, resp failure requiring vent and the ARDS SCEs from Semester IV. When using the PNCI they tend to use the
programming more than the process tools (written document) and make up their own story and questions.
You can use the respiratory related scenarios and change the story or the
responsible party. For example, the asthma SCE can be used for basic
assessment for their students as easily as for the nursing students. They
should be asking the same type of questions, but some of the expected behaviors would be different for the respiratory therapy student compared to the nursing student. The Semester III asthma could take place in the ER instead of the home. Again, there are the heart failures, resp failures, vent SCEs--the students need to be able to assess and recognize the same changes but their response will be different. Again, the expected behaviors would be where the real differences lie.

Hope this is helpful.
