View Full Version : defib using live shocks
We deliver live shocks to the child and the pads are very expensive so I neeed an alternative. We are getting through 3 sets in any one session.
Is there a way of delivering the shock without being so expensive? I have had a reply to Hot Wire the child but I do not really want to do this.....any ideas ??

On the adult Meti we have found Laerdal adapter posts that you can snap on a harness.

Phil I recieved this tip from Scott Atkinson on how he solved the problem....There ar photos that go with it. If you will E-Mail me at David-knight@ouhsc.edu I can forward his E-Mail to you
for those of you interested in saving the agony of collecting and looking for expired pads and decrease the risk of arching and sparking with defib pads I have enclosed pictures and directions on what I have done.
Take your standard set of pads and peel the backing off. Apply them to a hard plastic backing (I found the blue plastic tray that the central lines come in the best material). Take a pair of scissors and cut them out including cutting the wire that enters the pad. Next take a standard clip with the wire attached and glue (locktite works best) the clip and wire to the back of the plastic material that the pads are adhered to. Note: you may need to rough up the plastic with sandpaper for best adhesion. Now you should have two pads with the clip and wire attached. Strip your wires on the clips and the wires from the plug that you have left over from cutting them off the pads (see pics I left about 6 inches of wire on the clips). Re-attach your wires together (make sure you attach the correct wire to the correct pad). Use electrician tape to cover the re-attachment of the wires. There you have it a pair of pads that will last forever. No more looking for pads and best of all no more archs or sparks from worn re-used pads. Have fun and if anyone has other inventions don’t be afraid to share. Thanks…
Note: The pads are for looks. Remember the electricity is now being transferred through the clips which are under the pads and protected by the pads.
